Reminder: IT Services Power Outage: Wednesday 22nd/Thursday 23rd September
by Rich Goodman - Wednesday, 22 September 2010, 08:36 AM

IT Services have been informed that it is necessary to perform a full 12 hour electrical power shutdown today (from 6:30pm tonight, Wednesday 22nd September until 6:30am tomorrow, Thursday 23rd September) in the Haslegrave Building.  This is the building that contains the main IT services for the University. The work is required in order to comply with building regulations and unfortunately cannot be avoided. We apologise for the late notice in announcing this outage, but this is due to factors outside our control. It is essential that this work is carried out before the start of term.

The power outage has been planned to commence during the early evening of Wednesday 22nd September, and will continue until early on the morning of Thursday 23rd September. During the outage, the bulk of IT Services (e.g. Staff E-Mail, Corporate Systems, Learn etc) will be unavailable, though it should be possible to maintain the University’s Internet connectivity during this time via temporary electricity supplies.

IT Services will begin shutting down services at around 5:00pm on Wednesday evening, starting with corporate systems applications, with a view to all services being unavailable by 6:30pm, at which point the contractors carrying out the work will disconnect the power to the building. Power will be restored at 6:30am on Thursday morning, at which time IT Services staff will begin restoring services, with a view to, barring problems, fully restoring all services by 8:30am. Service restoration will, wherever possible, be prioritised in order to ensure that more vital services are restored early on in the schedule.

We wish to apologise again for this unavoidable inconvenience. If you believe that you will have any specific problems as a result of this outage, then please inform the IT Service Desk as soon as possible (x222333, it.services@lboro.ac.uk), and we will do our best to assist you in working around these problems.

Many thanks,

IT Services
