IT Services Planned Unavailability overnight Tuesday 24th and into Wednesday 25th May
by Charles Shields - Tuesday, 17 May 2011, 03:59 PM

In order for essential electrical power work to be carried out in preparation for the delivery of University’s new virtualised server infrastructure, it will be necessary to power down all IT Services in the main University Data Centre over the night of Tuesday 24th and into the morning of Wednesday 25th May 2011. Services unavailable will include Learn, E-Mail, Central File store, Web Services, and Corporate Database systems, as well as many smaller more specialised systems.

To facilitate this work, IT Services will commence the shutdown of services towards the end of the working day on Tuesday 24th May to ensure that they are in a safe state for the loss of power. Power is expected to be restored by 8:30am the following morning (Wednesday 25th May) and IT Services will begin restoring services at this time, prioritising the most used services. Although IT Services will make every effort to restore services as quickly as possible, services should be considered to be “at risk” until 12:30pm on the 25th May to allow for any potential difficulties that may arise.

We are expecting to retain Internet connectivity utilising smaller temporary power supplies throughout the Data Centre power outage, as well as a small number of additional services which are able to be run from our alternative site in Holywell Park (e.g. Backup for Main University Web Server).

Thank you for your understanding.
